Karwani

The Karwani or Caravan Hounds ( as anglicised during Colonial rule) are found in the Marathwada region, encapsulating parts of the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh in India….their history dates back to the BCs...they are graceful hunters, known as a noble breed always ready to sacrifice food, life, etc.
......they are aristocratic, intelligent, proud, silent, elegant with powerful but graceful movement.....their coat is very tight, short, shiny and fine...their muscles are flat but very well outlined, almost as if chiseled..… colours range from white, off-white, cream, fawn black, brindle, grey; and permutation-combination of almost all with or without patches or spots..........they are very affectionate, extremely sensitive and strongly attached to their families.........their beauty is something special, asthetic, ethereal..….....they have extremely expressive eyes which is capable of giving a cold stare, if need be ........and their face is gentle but can become ferocious if real danger is near........a true blooded warrior, the Karwani does not like to fight but will do if he or his family is attacked......and when he does you might just end up watching it's true samurai spirit in awe........ the Caravan is very patient & tolerant with children but reserved towards strangers......she ideally would like to take her time to be friends with you if you are not her immediate family.......she does not like to be dirty, she would religiously spend some good time licking and cleaning herself up.........because of her composed behavior, can be kept in an apartment, provided she gets her share of exercise........a true beauty of its own kind it is said that… You don't own your Caravan! He or She owns you!

No idea Bijoy...but many experts believe Mudhol & Karwanis r the same ..so, i can tell u where u can get Karwani pup from...

Ya. Both are the same. Can you tell me where I can get a pup from? Absolutely pure one. Because, a lot of them will pass off a mongrel pup for a mudhol. How do I check if a pup is pure Karwani?

Bijoy, r u there on orkut....check out this community/link http://www.orkut.co.in/Community.aspx?cmm=39447658
Here's Prasad Mayekar's ph no.(09423381979). He has spent 27 yrs with Karwanis, 13 generations of them to be precise. Speak with him. Am sure u'd be satisfied. If u still need more tips/confirmation on ascertaining purity of a pup/karwani, u r most welcome to speak with me, as well. I'll fill u with whatever little i know from having lived with them and will as well put u on to some other friends of mine who have Karwanis.

Thanks man! I found a guy through the kennel club who used to breed the Mudhols. Have paid him an advance. He says that he'll get me a good pup from Mudhol itself. In Bijapur. So, I should be getting my pup in about a week. The only problem is - how do I check if it's really pure? There was this link I found. That's in Tamil Nadu. He's got one pup left. Please check the pics and tell me if these are pure. Is there any special characteristics that I can look for to know if it's pure? http://macpromotions.regalix.com/macpromotions/macoffer.jsp?channel=cm&keyword=kijiji

Dude, the guy says that he's got just white colour in males. How does white look in a Mudhol? Is that a natural colour for a Mudhol? Am wondering, these dogs are bred for hunting. So, they need camouflage. And a white may not be great camouflage colour. So, it could it be mixed? Do enlighten please.

Don't u worry...white is the most acceptable colour and most preferred in the show circuit as well...my male is off white...so is his father Cash(check him out in the latest post) & my female is bay(white with patches)....in fact lot of people look for pure white or off-white...whether it's mixed or not...only a thorough check of physical disposition(snout, coat, eyes, ear flaps, neck, withers, spine, tail, hind-leg angulation & positioning, chest & ribcage, paws, etc) temperament, etc can only confirm...that's why it's always advisable to get a pup from a reliable breeder who can provide u the lineage....
